Wilmington Bobcats Youth Football 2009

Well registration is over and we are on our way to the 2009 football season. We have scheduled a 3 day football camp that will commence on July 21, 22 and 23rd. Times will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Flyers will be going out to the schools before summer vacation and ads will be placed in the newspapers. It will be open to the public at a cost of $10 which will include a camp t-shirt.

Our first practice will be on July 27th. Late sign ups and equipment handout will be on Saturday, July 18th.   Junior Varsity and Varsity equipment hand outs will be at 9:00am.  Super Lights and Lightweight equipment hand outs will be at 11 am.

As most of you know we started to upgrade our facility last fall. The project started with Pat Smucker discing up the fields before we could move the dirt, we thank Pat for his help. With the dirt work complete and the torrential rains hampering the planting of the seed we have finally found an opening in the weather to plant the fields. In the past few weeks we have seen the grass emerging from the ground and hope to keep it watered and be ready for the upcoming season. This will obviously be an ongoing process for the next year or two to perfect these two fields. We would like to thank "D" Construction and Brieser Construction for their generous donations of machines in the fall for moving the dirt required to make our fields much improved. We would also like to thank Joe Nugent for the use of his equipment and his help for the discing, dragging and planting of the fields.

We would also like to extend thanks to William Hammer and the Scoular Company for their more than generous donation of 1200 pounds of grass seed. The Scoular Company plans to build their facility on property that was annexed into Wilmington earlier this year. With a donation like this Scoular obviously is committed to being involved and helping this community and the residents that live here. Projects like the upgrade of our facility would not be possible without the helping hand of such companies. We welcome them with open arms.

The city of Wilmington also deserves our appreciation. For many years they have donated the property that our facility lies on. Just recently I am happy to announce that the city has granted the Wilmington Jr. Football & Cheerleading League a 99 year lease on the property. If it were not for the City of Wilmington we would not have any property to work with. We are more than grateful for their help and understanding.

We have also secured a gracious donation of two goal posts from Rich Kane and Consolidated Power Supply. Consolidated is a local company that supplies piping to industries requiring that material. Rich who was a former Athletic Director for the Bobcat Organization shows that he is still involved and genuinely concerned about the future of this organization and all the children that take part in its programs. Rich we are overly thankful for your donation.

I would like to personally thank the people that have helped make this ongoing expansion possible. Frank Studer, Todd Holmes and Terry Donovan have made it possible for this project to become to a reality. Frank and Todd have truly been a blessing to this organization. The time they have donated is countless. It is gratifying to know that we have people in this organization that are willing to take time out of their busy schedules to improve this facility for all the children involved. Recently, one of our dads has offered to reinstall the pavilion that we had to take down last fall in order to make room for the SL & LW practice field expansion. Eddie Pogliano has started this project and will complete it before the 09 season starts. We thank Eddie for all his time and effort. We have located it on the 40 yard line of of the new JV & Varsity practice fields. In the future we envision it to be the base for a larger structure for a tower to oversee any possible SL/LW games that we might play on the new 80 yard game/practice field. Again we would like to thank everyone who has helped this project become a reality, it is people like you that the children of this community count on to provide them with a safe and adequate facility to learn in.

We look forward to seeing you all in the very near future. Our season will be upon us shortly and we hope to provide a succesful, fun filled learning experience for all our players and cheerleaders.

The Bobcat Organization

We are always looking for dedicated individuals to help-out. Whether you wish to help with coaching, concessions, cleaning or maintaining our wonderful facility or, if you desire to get more involved with the organization as well, we are always searching to find good people to help with the children of this great community. THEY ARE IN FACT OUR FUTURE
