Dear Bobcat Members:
Well, it’s that time of year again, football registration.
It has been determined by the Tri-County League that the year will start 2 weeks later. Our first practice will be on July 28th. Late Sign-ups and equipment hand outs will be on Saturday, July 19th. Junior Varsity and Varsity will be have their equipment hand outs at 9am and Super Lights and Lightweights is at 11am.
The enclosed registration form can be filled out, as well as the waiver and picture release forms, prior to your arrival to hopefully speed up the registration process. The following information will be filled in by the staff: level of play, sizing of various equipment and uniforms, and weigh ins required for the boys.
We also would like to introduce our 2008 Bobcat Head Coaches:
at Superlight Mark Vargocko
at Lightweight Bill (Bopper) Welch
at Junior Varsity Steve Friddle
at Varsity Tom Guzier
We welcome and extend our gratitude to all of our head coaches, they work very hard all season long.
We do have quite a few changes this year in our by-laws. Some of these are pertaining to the 5 play rule, an issue that we had a few problems with last year. Hopefully with the new by-laws in place this will no longer be an issue.
We would also like to address the issue of missed practices. We understand that there are many other sports and activities in this community that the children like to participate in, and as an organization we do not want to have anyone choose between them. However, in the past two years it has become evident that some players cannot make the full practices, whether for another sport or activity. At the same time there are players that make every practice. We do feel that this is unfair, to allow the players that miss practices to participate freely in the games while some of the players that make all the practices may be restricted to the 5 play rule. So in response to these instances we have drafted the following by-law changes:
Article XIII Special Policies
A. Definition of practice are as follows: Full participation in practice for a minimum of 75% of total practice time. (Example; 2 hour practice requires 1.5 hours participation to be considered a practice). (added 02/2008)
B. If a player or cheerleader misses two excused practices in any one week period, the Head Coach (with the approval of the Athletic Director) may at his/her discretion limit the participation time in a game. (Amended 02/2008).
C. If a player or cheerleader missed more than two unexcused practices in one week, they will be ineligible to participate in the upcoming game.
In comparison, there are many clubs that force you to choose between one sport and another. We do not ask you to make that choice, however we do ask that you understand that being fair to all the children participating in this truly demanding team sport is essential.
You may download a copy of the Wilmington Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization by-laws, as well as many other documents at our website: wilmingtonbobcats.com.
Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you at registration and having an educational, exciting and fun filled year.
